Dr. Helliwell has incorporated advancements in the area of minimally-invasive cosmetic surgery into the breast implant procedure. Dr. Helliwell's procedure is performed under local or tumescent anesthesia, the same as performed in liposculpture surgery. You will also be given an oral medication to help you relax.
In the procedure a small incision is made in the fold under the breast and a pocket is created under the chest muscle. The placement under the muscle gives a very natural appearance and greatly lessens the possibility of a hardened capsule around the implant and eliminates rippling.
The result is a safer, more affordable, in-office Breast Augmentation procedure with no intravenous or general anesthesia that saves up to one thousand dollars and allows the patient to walk out without pain 15 minutes after surgery.(If the patient desires they many opt for general anesthesia in a hospital setting)
Choose the surgeon who cares enough about patient care and comfort that he adopted a new Breast Augmentation method to offer patients like you a safer, more affordable cosmetic surgery.
The breast augmentation has one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in plastic surgery and it's currently one of the most sought-after procedures in this country. Regardless, the decision to undergo breast enhancement should not be taken lightly.
Silicon vs. Saline Implants
Saline Implants - Saline breast implants have a silicone rubber shell that is inflated to the desired size at the time of teh operation. Dr. Helliwell usses a an adjustable volume implant, which is filled intraoperatively and has the potential for further postoperative adjustment. The implant itseself comes in smooth round, textured round, and contour profile, with the valve located on the posterior surface of the implant. The valve has 3 sealing mechanisms to offer triple protection agains any valve failure.
Silicion Implants - Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel, which is softer and more natural (in the way it feels to the touch) than saline breast implants. They feel so soft and natural, that it is often impossible to discern them from natural breast tissue.
Rippling is far less likely to occur in women with silicone implants than in women with saline implants. This is because silicone gel is far more viscous (thicker) than saline, so it does not move or slosh, as saline can. Because of this, silicone implants can be placed over the muscle in women with little body fat or little breast tissue without the aesthetic concerns (rippling) associated with placing saline implants over the muscle in these women.
The greatest benifit of a silicone breast implant is a more natural look and feel.
While it's possible for an implant to leak or break, this is extremely rare. Potential side effects of having the procedure include infection, bleeding, hematoma, pain, change or loss of sensation in the nipple area, visible edges of the implant, ability to feel the implant, scar formation, encapsulation causing hardening of the implant area, further procedures due to any of the above, and possibly an autoimmune reaction. While all of these events are rare, additional procedures are not uncommon. On a positive note, the psychological effects after your procedure will be noticeable, especially increased self-esteem and confidence.
